Wampa Cone Recipe for Star Wars Day!

As you probably already know, May 4th is Star Wars Day. And if you've been following me on instagram for a while, you'll know that our family tries to do something special each year to celebrate the occasion. Last year we put together an entire star wars themed meal, and you can find that post here. This year I'm all about summer coming up and had ice cream on the brain and my thought process was: Summer=Ice Cream=Cold=Wampa=Wompa Cone! I was all excited and brought the idea to Zac and we put together this fun, simple, and super yummy recipe.



 To get started all you need is:

Ingredients

*Sweetened shredded coconut (for the fur)
*Junior Mints or Milk Duds (for the eyes and mouth. We recommend putting the junior mints in the freezer for about 10 minutes before you start so that they're easier to work with)
*Vanilla Ice Cream (you can do other flavors too. We chose vanilla to make the "fur" extra white)
*Ice cream cone of your choice (We like waffle cones!You could also just serve it in a bowl, but cones are so much more fun!)
*Fudge Stripes Cookies (for the horns)
*Red food coloring or strawberry syrup (for blood. Mmmm...blood!)

Directions

1. Scoop ice cream into your favorite type of cone. Make sure there's enough on the top to dip into the coconut

2. Dip cone into a small bowl of shredded coconut until ice cream is covered.

3. Make a face out of Junior mints (if you don't care for mint you could use milk duds). Stick mints sideways into the ice cream to make the eyes. Cut a junior mint in half so that the white is showing for the teeth. we found that sticking the junior mints in the freezer for about 10 minutes makes them easier to work with. Stick the junior mint in the ice cream to make the mouth. make sure it goes in sideways to show the white minty side. You can also use a tooth pick to make little lines for teeth. If you're using milk duds you can just stick it in without cutting it in half.

4. My favorite part! Break one fudge stripes cookie in half and stick one half on each side of the ice cream to make the horns

5. This step is optional, but we added red food coloring to give him a bloody mouth. I bet strawberry syrup would be super tasty for this as well!


6. EAT IT UP!

The combination of the candy, cookie and coconut gives the ice cream some great texture and flavor. And more importantly, it looks awesome! Do you celebrate Star Wars Day? Share your traditions in the comments below.
